Basement

When you think about an unfinished basement it is often hard to see the vast opportunities that await you.  At a first look all you see it a big empty space that is rough and barren but what you don’t see is the limitless potential of what your basement could become. There are a variety of ways to approach a basement remodel.  The area can be left open as one big room or it can be separated into whatever your needs may be. It can be elaborately decorated or it can be very simple. The only limit is your imagination.
We will help you with the layout of your basement as well as with the building procedures. D.E.W. It is important to consider a few things before finishing your basement which are listed below.

  • Ceiling Height- Since it is a basement there is going to be duct work and possible a low ceiling level. There are two options when deciding how to deal with this. One is to live with a lower ceiling or you can frame around the duct work and have the majority of the ceiling higher.
  • Dampness- This can lead to huge problems long after the remodel is completed. Dampness will make your basement feel warmer or cooler. The main point to make though is that dampness leads to mold and mildew. The first thing that must be done when finishing a basement it to fix any dampness issues and then seal the basement to ensure no mold or mildew will grow.
  • Lighting- If one of your walls is above ground and you have a window that allows light to come in lighting will be easy for you. However, for a basement with no windows you must pay close attention to the light that you choose. You should always use energy efficient bulbs and fixtures which will help to save you money along with protecting the environment.
